Locavore is inspired by the richness of Indonesian spices and herbs, which are manifested in many of its heritage cuisines throughout this archipelago. We dedicate this event to all food lovers who would like to engage in a mind opening gastronomical experience by inducing their human senses, through touch, sight, taste, smell, and even sound, in a communal dining setting, prepared by curated bare food chefs who are very passionate to introduce their native food culture. It is something different and breakthrough. A research in flavors, heritage values, and exotic ingredients are involved, to make sure the event delivers the utmost local flavor to all guests. For its initial stage, Locavore presents thematic cuisines inspired by Chinese New Year Ethnical Celebration in Indonesia.

Chinese people believe that during New Year celebration, they must consume these types of meat : milk fish, chicken, and pork. Why? It is simply because those three musketeers of sacrificed animals represent laziness, greediness, and evil that should be avoided by human. Taken back from the main philosophy of Sam Seng (Three Domestic Animals), Locavore is proudly to introduce a unique Chinese New Year heritage food tradition from samples of different region in Indonesia. A delectable insight of Chinese ethics in Indonesia will be brought alive : they are so heterogeneous in food ritual, amicable in smile, and passionate in style.

The foods will be specially cooked by selected bare foot chefs who are native from different Chinese ethnics in Indonesia. We are bringing them in this collaborative project to give you an idea about a beyond expectation cooking talent and uncountable passion. We also will emphasize on the basic spices and herbs that being used for all the foods. Cultural approach will be induced in a relaxed atmosphere. Small talks, fun game, and entertaining cackle will be shared throughout this event.

What is LOCAVORE?

Locavore will not only feature different range of Indonesian heritage cuisines but also assemble a fun sensory game for all guests to conjecture which ingredients being used in the menu. An installation line of fresh ingredients will be displayed for all guests to see, smell, taste, and touch. Later on, they will be given an opportunity to specify which ingredients being used in those foods. Guest who produces the highest score result will win fabulous prize.

Gourmet World will be a host for Locavore series starting from January 2012. It will be a perfect eating place to meet other food aficionado from every part of town, celebrate the true meaning of local food culture, and be a special guest invited to this provocative tasting event series.
